In the coming months, Ukrainian schoolchildren will gain access to internationally acclaimed mathematics lessons in their native language. This milestone has been made possible through a cooperation agreement between the KSE Foundation and the American corporation Khan Academy. As part of this partnership, the charitable foundation of the Kyiv School of Economics will localize and translate STEM educational content into Ukrainian.

Leading teachers, researchers, and the KSE Foundation community will be involved in the translation and video lesson recording process. These include winners of the «Talents for Ukraine» grant program and schools participating in the «ZAKHYSTOK: Safe Education» program.

According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as of 2024, 3,800,000 students are enrolled in secondary education institutions, with nearly 400,000 temporarily displaced due to the full-scale Russian invasion. The collaboration between the KSE Foundation and Khan Academy opens up opportunities to supplement and enhance mathematical knowledge for all children with internet access, regardless of their location and time.

The mission of this project is to provide world-class education free of charge to all. As Khan Academy’s representative in Ukraine, the KSE Foundation will ensure the high quality of translation and localization of the Academy’s educational materials into Ukrainian.

«We want every Ukrainian schoolchild to have access to the best and most interesting knowledge and education in the world. Khan Academy is a global leader in modern, engaging, and lively learning. And now Khan Academy’s STEM materials will be available in Ukraine! This will improve people’s lives! It will interest our children in studying mathematics, engineering, technology, and science. Such education will change them and make them competitive worldwide. I have seen children learning from these materials. They become geniuses. Now we will have the same», — Tymofiy Mylovanov, President of KSE.

Khan Academy is a non-profit educational organization that develops and distributes educational materials online. It boasts a library of over 6500 videos covering various fields and is supported by donations, the largest of which come from Google and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Advisors involved in the project include Nazar Drugov, who advises on translation, fundraising, and strategy, and Laker Newhouse, who manages communication with Khan Academy and previously assisted in developing the Multivariable Calculus course.

One of the key missions of this project will also be to provide access to lessons in Ukrainian for children currently living abroad. Access to educational materials in Ukrainian will not only facilitate acquiring new knowledge but also ease the adaptation of children to the school curriculum upon their return to Ukraine.

The project commenced on March 22 and is slated for completion within two years. More details about the project can be found on the website.
