The Talents for Ukraine program by the KSE Foundation supports scientists and innovators who advance science and apply research outcomes across various fields. This week’s winners include a student working in artificial intelligence and computer vision, a medical chemistry researcher and creator of AI-based educational platforms, as well as a scientist developing new polymer materials for applications in optics, sensors, and energy technologies
Mykhailo Petrikei is a first-year student at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. He works in the field of artificial intelligence and computer vision, focusing on the development of applied technological solutions. He is developing a range of projects, including an AI-based waste detection system, a smart diving system with object recognition and gesture control, as well as an investment platform in Ukraine aimed at supporting small and medium-sized businesses. He is a participant and awardee of international scientific competitions, where he presents STEM projects and technological developments representing Ukraine on the international stage.
“I have realized that an idea is worthless without implementation. It is important not just to think, but to test and act quickly,” Mykhailo comments.
Marina Stasevych is a Doctor of Chemical Sciences and a Professor at the Department of Technology of Biologically Active Compounds, Pharmacy and Biotechnology at Lviv Polytechnic National University. She is a researcher in medical chemistry, working on the discovery and synthesis of new biologically active compounds using both experimental and in silico approaches. She is also the author of the educational AI platform AI4PharmaEdu for training pharmacists, which combines adaptive learning, AI assistants with practical cases to develop professional competencies.
“I am able to see interdisciplinary connections, transform complex scientific ideas into accessible educational products, and turn big dreams into real results,” Maryna emphasizes.
Ihor Tkachenko is a Doctor of Chemical Sciences and a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Macromolecular Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. He works in the field of functional polymer chemistry, focusing on the development of new materials for optics, sensors, display technologies, energy, and biomedicine. His research includes fluorinated polymers, organo-inorganic hybrid systems, photosensitive materials, and ion-conducting membranes used in microelectronics, optical devices, and next-generation energy systems. He combines fundamental research with applied development aimed at technological implementation.
“I appreciate the moment when, after numerous attempts and doubts, you finally achieve the desired result,” Ihor notes.
