Students of the Kyiv School of Economics gathered at a collective community work to help in arranging a shelter for school children, namely: to help in clearing the basement of the Hruzhchanska gymnasium in a village in the Kyiv region. The premises will soon become a comfortable shelter capable of protecting 85 schoolchildren and 26 kindergarten students.
Many local children experienced isolation when the enemy cut off the village from transportation and left people without any communication, food or medicine at the beginning of a full-scale invasion. KSE students Mariia Oliinyk, Roman Radiovskyi, Anastasiia Bazir, Oleksandra Hohol and an incredible team of students set out to bring back their usual school days to children.
School shelters in many cases are abandoned basements without a floor, with fungus-covered walls, emergency wiring and no ventilation. Such premises are not only unsuitable for long-term stay of children during air alarms, but can also pose a threat to their health.
Thanks to benefactors from Ukraine and around the world, the KSE Foundation team transforms such dark and damp basements into comfortable shelters. Students of the Kyiv School of Economics have been assistants in returning children to desks since the very beginning of the “ZAKHYSTOK: Safe Education” program.
This time, the KSE student community, together with the director of the KSE Foundation Svitlana Denysenko, the head of the restoration department Maryna Borysenko and the manager of educational projects Olha Kyrylenko, disassembled and removed all the old furniture, removed dozens of kilograms of garbage, carried out basic dismantling work and completely cleaned the area of almost 150 m2 !
Now the basement is ready for the start of repair work. Professional builders, electricians and plumbers will soon start arranging the shelter: the floor screed will be poured, electrical wiring will be replaced, toilet rooms will be installed, waterproofing will be carried out, ventilation will be installed, and more.
More than 110 pupils and kindergarten students will return to safe and quality education!
