Over three months, the East SOS Charitable Foundation evacuated residents of frontline communities across four regions. Among those rescued were 169 older people, 111 people with limited mobility, and 37 children. Grant funding from KSE Foundation strengthened the organization’s operational capacity.

Rescuing the Most Vulnerable

East SOS is one of Ukraine’s largest initiatives providing comprehensive support to people affected by Russian aggression. KSE Foundation awarded the organization a grant to evacuate civilians. The team focused on those for whom leaving on their own is nearly impossible: people with limited mobility, older people, people with disabilities, and families with children.

Evacuation crews traveled to frontline communities in the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions, including Sloviansk, Kramatorsk, Nikopol, Marhanets, Shakhtarske, Kherson, Lysohirka, and Trudoolenivka.

Over three months, the team brought 314 people to safer regions, including:

  • 37 children
  • 169 older people
  • 111 people with limited mobility
  • 36 people with disabilities.

An Evacuation Story

Among those the East SOS team helped leave dangerous Kherson was 88-year-old Yevheniia Pavlivna. Because she has a musculoskeletal condition, the evacuation team arranged careful, specialized transport for her.

The crew didn’t stop at getting her out of the city. They continued all the way to Odesa, where Yevheniia Pavlivna was met by her daughter, who had come back from abroad to be with her mother.

Support and Safe Resettlement

The team’s help didn’t end once people were out of danger. East SOS handled logistics, accompanied evacuees along the way, and helped them find temporary housing. For people from vulnerable groups, the team’s specialists found residential care facilities and homes suited to each person’s individual needs.
