This spring, the localization team of one of the world’s leading online platforms, Khan Academy, translated and adapted another educational course for Ukrainian school students — High School Physics. This course became the thirteenth available on uk.khanacademy.org, offering free, interactive lessons in Ukrainian.
The project is being implemented by the KSE Foundation in cooperation with faculty and students from KSE University. Students from Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, and the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy also participated in the localization effort.
Since the second half of April, the physics course has expanded Khan Academy’s Ukrainian-language library of educational resources, which already includes courses in mathematics, chemistry, biology, and economics. Since May of last year, the project team has localized educational materials — including notes, quizzes, and video lessons — for 12 courses: Algebra Basics, Arithmetic, Precalculus, Basic Geometry and Measurement, Algebra 2, Pre-Algebra, Early Math, High School Statistics, High School Geometry, High School Biology, High School Chemistry, and two topics in Microeconomics. Altogether, this amounts to around 600 lessons and 160 hours of recorded video.
The new High School Physics course is ideal for beginners who are just starting to explore physics. It is designed for 5th–6th grade students and for anyone interested in understanding the basics of forces, energy, and waves — all without complicated formulas or confusing calculations. The course materials are presented in a clear and engaging way, with an emphasis on intuitive understanding of physical phenomena.
The course consists of four main sections: Motion and Forces, Forces at a Distance, Energy, and Waves, plus a dedicated section for hands-on experiments. During the development of the course, the team translated 46,846 words and recorded 1 hour, 17 minutes, and 41 seconds of video.
Now, every Ukrainian student has free access to 13 full courses from Khan Academy — one of the world’s top platforms for distance education — which provides interactive learning and helps students catch up in science and mathematics. In addition to uk.khanacademy.org, all educational programs are fully available in the project’s official app, which can be downloaded for free from the platform’s website. The app is available for Android and iOS devices, and importantly, all lessons and supplementary materials can be downloaded in advance and viewed offline.
