Military photojournalist Evgeniy Maloletka is the winner of the #TalentsForUkraine grant program by KSE Foundation!

Evgeniy is a photojournalist and documentarian. His photos of the siege of Mariupol have become some of the most recognized war images worldwide. In the years 2022-2023, our winner received two Pulitzer Prizes, World Press Photo, and more than 20 international journalism awards.

Despite having an engineering education, engaged in documentary photography for 14 years. Evgeniy covered the work of doctors during the COVID-19 pandemic and the protests of Ukrainians during the Revolution of Dignity. On December 1, 2013, during the events, the “Berkut” personnel broke his wrist and damaged his camera, but did not force him to stop working.

On February 24, 2022, Evgeniy and the Associated Press team traveled to Mariupol. The photographs of the besieged city became the only professionally shot material during the city’s siege by Russian forces.

The images of the aftermath of the Russian airstrike on the maternity ward of Hospital No. 3 on March 9 shocked the world. One of the most iconic photos (of pregnant Irina Kalinina) was printed on front pages worldwide. The international jury of the World Press Photo selected this photo as the photo of the year.
