“We cannot change the past, but we can influence the future”

Daryna Doskach — the first recipient of the Iryna Tsybukh Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is not about the past. It’s about the future — one that can still be shaped. It’s about those who carry on the work of the fallen, take responsibility, and create opportunities for others.

The first recipient is Daryna Doskach — a student at KSE, head of the largest Plast scouting chapter in Ukraine, a volunteer, and a civic activist who knows that change begins with those willing to act.

“I didn’t know Iryna personally, but her values have always felt like part of my life. She believed in the power of youth, in education, and in the fight for justice. I share each of those beliefs.”

“When the invasion began, we sent out our first aid truck in just 16 hours”

Daryna grew up in Plast. First as a participant, later as an organizer of trainings, gatherings, and fundraising campaigns.

Then came the night of February 24. And everything changed.

“We decided to put our youth work on hold and focus entirely on supporting the military. On the very first day, we sent a truck full of gear. And within four days, more than 20 aid collection points were operating in Lviv.”

Later, she led the “Boxes of Life” project — delivering humanitarian aid kits to frontline towns. Over 800 trucks of food were sent to those who stayed in their homes, even when nothing else was reaching them.

In 2023, Daryna became head of the Lviv Plast chapter — 2,500 children, 25 organizers, countless challenges.

“I knew I would apply for this scholarship”

When KSE established the Iryna Tsybukh Memorial Scholarship, Daryna didn’t hesitate.

“This scholarship isn’t just about getting an education. It’s about preserving Iryna’s legacy and her ideas. She believed in education, in the importance of working with young people. That’s exactly what I do every day.”

Daryna met with Iryna’s mother and brother — they personally interviewed every applicant.

“We quickly found common ground. And now we’re working together to preserve the memory of the Defenders.”

“Education gives us the power to change the country”

Today, Daryna is pursuing her master’s degree at KSE in Public Policy and Governance. She wants to work in public administration, transform youth policy, and create opportunities for those who will build Ukraine’s future.

“Receiving this scholarship isn’t about recognition. It’s about responsibility. About the chance to continue the work of those who can no longer do it themselves.”

This is only the beginning. The stories shaping the future are still being written.
