Oles Honchar Dnipro National University is among the winners of the #DaVinciUkraine grant program! Their team received support to launch a regional STEM project aimed at popularizing chemistry among school students through hands-on research and preparing them for olympiads.

Chemistry is the foundation of many technological advances. But how do we make it less intimidating — something that inspires curiosity and shows how it transforms the world? And how can students see themselves as part of this process?

That’s exactly what the team from the Faculty of Chemistry at Dnipro National University is working on.

Thanks to the grant from the KSE Foundation and STEM Talent Fund, the Young Chemistry Explorers Club has already begun its work — a regular format of hands-on sessions in university labs, covering topics from atomic structure to photochemistry and 3D modeling. Already, 130 students have registered to participate!

And soon, thanks to the Da Vinci Ukraine grant, even more initiatives will be launched:

  • STEM Chemistry Challenge — a next-generation regional olympiad with interdisciplinary tasks, teamwork, and AI integration;

  • Over 30 lab and practical sessions for students in grades 8–11;

  • A summer chemistry intensive in June for 20+ students from Dnipro and the region;

  • Training workshops for science teachers to upgrade their skills;

  • Open access to all learning materials, videos, and tasks via DNU platforms — for students who cannot attend in person;

  • Ongoing support for participants: mentoring sessions, feedback, and learning cases in chemistry, ecology, computer science, and biotechnology.

Who does the program reach?

  • 100+ students from communities across Dnipropetrovsk region

  • 20 chemistry and STEM subject teachers

  • 100% of the content is available as open access for all school students in Ukraine

The Faculty of Chemistry at DNU works year-round with gifted students and teachers — and now, the Da Vinci Ukraine grant will help them reach the next level, making quality chemistry education more accessible, hands-on, and inspiring for everyone.

Congratulations to the faculty team on their victory and the launch of this exciting program!
